The Nuclear Waste Management Commission (ESK) advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in matters of nuclear waste management. This comprises the aspects of conditioning, interim storage and transport of radioactive materials and wastes, further the decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear facilities as well as disposal in deep geological formations.
The ESK was established on 12th June 2008 at the BMU and held its constituent meeting on 30th June 2008.
