Committee on Final Disposal (EL)

The “Committee on Final Disposal” (EL) carries out consultations on scientific/technical issues in connection with the disposal of low- and medium-level as well as high-level radioactive waste. These concern, among other things, individual aspects of the backfilling and sealing concept for the decommissioning of the Morsleben repository for radioactive waste (ERAM), questions regarding the safety and the sealing concept of the Asse II mine and the safety requirements on the disposal of heat-generating radioactive waste as put up for discussion by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in the draft of 29.07.2008.

The consultation programme of the Committee on Final Disposal (EL) also includes information about progress in the construction of the Konrad repository, issues related to nuclear criticality safety in connection with disposal in different host rocks and issues related to main areas of research and promotion concepts in Germany.

If required, topics related to issues of radiation protection are dealt with in close consultation with the Commission on Radiological Protection (SSK).
