The Committee on DECOMMISSIONING (ST) continues discussing the safety requirements for the decommissioning of nuclear installations. The aim is to set out the current national requirements for decommissioning under consideration of the international rules and regulations.
Partial aspects of this topic are, among others, the current strategies, concepts and experiences related to the contamination and dismantling of buildings and the decay storage of large components as well as the completion of decommissioning projects.
In 2011, the consultations of the Committee concentrated on the decommissioning and dismantling of the Obrigheim nuclear power plant (KWO) regarding the implementation of requirements of the Reactor Safety Commission (RSK) in connection with the 1st decommissioning and dismantling licence and the 2nd decommissioning licence.
It is planned to resume the consultations of 2010 on the decommissioning and dismantling of the Karlsruhe Reprocessing Plant (WAK), in particular with regard to the remotely controlled disassembly of the HAWC storage tanks, in 2012 within a joint ad hoc working group with the Committee on WASTE CONDITIONING, TRANSPORT AND INTERIM STORAGE (AZ).
Other topics of consultations for 2012 will be:
- 3rd decommissioning and dismantling licence for the Obrigheim nuclear power plant (KWO)
- Decommissioning and dismantling of the Karlsruhe Reprocessing Plant (WAK) and the Karlsruhe vitrification plant (VEK)
- Current issues to be dealt with relating to the decommissioning of the eight nuclear power plants
